One year later we got a computer that lived up to its name. It was a PC that was 386dx, 66 mhz, 320 meg hard drive, and 8 megs of memory. This when I saw Qbasic for the first time. It was amazing. This is when I really got into programming. The online help was very useful. For 2 years I didn't understand the DIM statement, I kept coming back to dimming the screen. I don't really remember when I understood it, I am just glad that I finally did get it.
About 2 years after I was first introduced to programming I really got into it. The thought of making it do exactly what I wanted it to do was amazing to me.
One year later my dad and I split Visual Basic 4.0 Standard Edition. This was helpful in learning about how Windows applications work. I was never commited to making an application, but the thought was fine for me.
I was browsing the help file day and saw a command I had never seen before "FloodFill". I used that same command while playing around. It never worked. This was one of the most frustrating moments, but a while later I found my answer. After that I tested many dll functions. I felt in control. I crave it. "It was endless," I thought to myself.
About a year later I was talking to my aunt Sherri, and she was telling me about the jobs I could get and how most people don't know half of what I know. I was nodding my head until she said something about getting Visual C++. Since i've seen C before I thought, "it looks simple enough." Months later I bought Ver 4.0 Std Ed. I was opening the sample files and I realized that I don't know how to program in C. I could of thought, down goes $100 in the toilet, but I didn't. I don't like many challenges, but when it comes to computers sign me up. This gave me the whole scoop on how Windows operates. I am still struggling with OLE, only because I havn't gotten into it.
This got me into trouble many times, but I never learned. Watching my sister on our computer she is nervous about touching the mouse. Some people ask why, I ask why not. Yes I get in trouble, but I just learned one more thing. I've learned many things that way!
I was looking through the appendix of the BASICA reference manual, and saw something about assembly language. I looked it up on the internet, and sure enough I found gobs of information. So now I write beginner assembly with debug.exe and a86.com also. What I fell in love with was the speed and the lack of the junk. This way I can have total control(there it is again) of the computer.
My first program that I am proud of is a program that plays a note into the midi channel. You can change all the settings. Took me about a week to write in VC++ 4.0. I don't like writing big programs because I never know what I want.
This is my first web page, and already I want to write CGI scripts. Surprise! Surprise!
I am not sure what career I want, but I know it is something where I work on computers.
I am a 15 year old male living in Southern California for 4 years. Before living here I've lived in Washington, and the awesome state of Oregon for 10 years.
I am a Sophmore going to Claremont High School. I am on the Varsity Water Polo team, and Junior Varsity Swimming too. My best stroke compared to others is Butterfly, and most graceful stroke and the hardest. This is my first year playing Water Polo. I used to ponder how they get those horses in the pool? (Haa Haa!)
My passion is computers. Whether it be programming or playing, they always amaze me of their capabilities for a hunk of metal. You could call me a computer nerd and I wouldn't deny it. I love solving computer problems, and learning new commands, or techniques. I hope to get computer parts, and then put it together myself for a cheap price. I get $20 bucks on allowance, and I have no job.
